World Diabetes Day

November is Diabetes Awareness Month

World Diabetes Day: 14th November

As the offical Cayman Islands member of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), C.I.D.A. takes part in celebrating World Diabetes Day (WDD) every year on November 14th. World Diabetes day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization and later became an official United Nations Day in 2007.  It is also the same day as Sir Frederick Banting’s birthday, the significance being that Banting discovered insulin.

To celebrate World Diabetes Day and help spread diabetes awareness during the month of November C.I.D.A. participates in the IDF’s “Blue Lighting Monument Challenge” where by different landmarks and/or buildings are lit blue to create diabetes awareness globally.

About the World Diabetes Day Logo

The World Diabetes Day logo is a blue circle, it is the global symbol for diabetes.  The logo was adopted in 2007 to mark the passage of the United Nations World Diabetes Day Resolution. The blue circle symbolizes life, health and unity.  The colour blue reflects the sky that unites all nations and is the colour of the United Nations flag.

Go BLUE for Diabetes Awareness

As November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and the awareness colour for diabetes is blue, individuals are asked to wear blue to show their support for creating diabetes awareness.

Wear BLUE on Fridays to support Diabetes Awareness.
